The Tangential Chaos of A Child Of God

The Chatfield Boys

Okay... this is a story I want to put together. I have been thinking on this for a month or two now and I've finally committed some stuff to paper. I'd like input.

Specifically I want to know how plausible the story would be. Can you find plot lines? I have nothing really as far as plot goes.

It's kind of a buddy/good cop - bad cop kind of thing, I guess. Brothers who go through the galaxy on adventures.

Possible series, I think.

I specifically want input from Russell and Charles.

Um... I'm sure there's more I want to say but I've been typing for two and a half hours and I'm prety much fried in the brain department.

Input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

The Chatfield Boys

Story idea

Sci-fi/Comedy

Story takes place around 2350 in & around our galaxy

Main Characters:

Steve Mac MacQueen Chatfield mid to late 30s, smart, quiet, thoughtful hes the brains of the organization. He isnt slow to action, but he thinks each act through before committing himself. He can think on the fly but he does think. (played by Charles???)

Ransom ? Chatfield Mid 20s, impetuous, rash, a sucker for a damsel in distress... he gets the team in trouble more often than not, but hes well intentioned. Mac is always bailing him out/saving his ass. Hes a good guy but doesnt think before committing himself and his brother to things they might not be able to handle or, things that might not be exactly legal. (played by Russell???)

Jasmine Jazz Fountainblume early 20s?, thoughtful, reserved until she gets to know ya type. Works as secretary/dispatcher for Ransom and Mac like Joan Cusack in Gross Pointe Blank (played by me???)

Basic plot: ?

Ransom and Mac are bounty hunter/merc types. They work for themselves Han Solo-ish. Theyre both excellent pilots, but work best as a team. Ransom gets them in trouble, Mac gets them out and somehow, together, they save the world time and again. Possible series?

Basic background history stuff:

  • At some point between 2004 and 2015 ish an international government is formed. Though each current nation still has its own president/leader, they all answer to the CEG (Central Earth Government). Kind of like the UN, but with more authority.

  • By 2015, child abuse had reached epidemic levels. A comity entitled the Coalition for Health and Welfare was instigated and they made up of international members began petitioning for harsher laws better protection for children. By the year 2020, the CHW developed a plan and began lobbying the CEG with the intention of regulating parenting making parenting a privilege.

  • In 2025 the CHW got a law passed which required all prospective parents to obtain a license before having children. These first licenses were pretty easy to get a little easier than getting a drivers license less study-necessary test. Each year that passed, however, had the CHW pushing for harsher, more stringent requirements until by 2032 a family had to jump through many hoops similar to getting licensed as a foster home. -- Eventually the process was so tight that only one out of every hundred applications was accepted, and out of those, only one in every hundred actually made it through all the hoops and received licensure.

  • By 2045 receiving a parenting license was so difficult that only the most dedicated went through the process. Complete personal, medical, financial, mental health, family history and bloodline records were required before the application would even be considered. And, if a family wanted a second child, an additional license had to be obtained, requiring the entire process be successful again.

  • In 2054 a nasty disease swept across the earth. It was developed by Dr. Kit Hampten a bio-engineer under contract with a military government (US? Arab? Egyptian? Russian?) to develop biological warfare agents. Though originally designed as a weapon for use in global warfare, Dr. Kit altered the strain when she discovered that her boyfriend was cheating on her.

  • The disease was released to the public when, in a fit of pique, Kit added a chemical agent which intensified sexual desire and sped the disease agent through the body; then left a thin film of the virus in a saline gel on the door knob of her boyfriends apartment. When the boyfriend opened his front door, he was infected. The boyfriend spread the disease to the woman he was seeing that night. The following day the other woman cut herself at work bad enough to need stitches and her blood, carrying the disease, infected all who came in contact with it. So on and so forth.

Disease shelf life: In the body/bloodstream: Two months
    Blood/body fluids: 48 hours
    Saline: 24 hours
    Water: 14 hours
    Air/no moisture: 30 minutes

Symptoms: Tingling/warmth at infection site 1-8 days
Tingling/warmth in outer extremities 2-10 days
Burning sensation in fingers, toes, belly (liver) and back (kidneys) 12 hours to 3 days
Burning throughout body, as if the blood were on fire 5-45 minutes
    Death

  • One can carry the disease for up to two months before they get the first symptoms. Once the first symptoms set in, however, the person has one to three weeks left to live.

  • There are two ways to acquire the disease. Those who contract it through sexual contact (oral as well as actual intercourse) are infected and show the first symptoms approximately three weeks of the sexual activity. Those who come in physical contact (touching/cleaning up/treating) spermatozoa, blood, urine, plasma, fecal mater or other infected material have the full two-month gestation period before the first symptoms. Their death is slower in coming, as well, lasting the full three weeks.

  • March 1st, 2054, Kit infected her boyfriend. That night the boyfriends partner was also infected. The following day the womans injury infected those who came in contact with her blood from her secretary to various office and hospital staff. The disease spread from there.

  • March 5th, 2054: Kit still hadnt shown up to work (she fled the country). The military that held her contract began investigating her studies, spending more than two months cataloging all the biological/chemical agents shed been playing with.

  • June 2054 thousands of deaths were attributed to the mystery disease.

  • August 2054 the military finally released information about the disease quietly in the hopes of stemming the tide.

  • August 15th, 2054: the disease garnered the name Miss Kittys Flame.

  • September 2054: the CHW demanded a world-wide quarantine, backed up by the CEG. No one was allowed outside their home without proper safety gear. Biohazard suits were frequently seen.

  • October 5th, 2054: CEG ruthlessly enforced by the CHW called a planet-wide state of emergency. A No Contact order was issued, making it illegal to have physical contact with other human beings without CHW-approved bio-hazard gear.

  • October 31st, 2054: nearly a quarter of the worlds population had been infected and died.

  • December 5th, 2054: The disease had slowed almost to a halt.

  • July 2055: the CEG enacted a law, at the behest of the CHW, making sexual contact illegal and punishable by death.

  • January 2056: the above law was amended to make physical contact of any kind without CHW-approved safety gear illegal.

  • March 2056: Miss Kittys Flame had been doused, but the aftermath was terrible. Just over 1/3 of the worlds population was gone. Panic still reigned. Physical love was illegal. Physical touch was nearly illegal. Prejudice was rampant. Marriage rates plummeted. Birth rates stopped altogether. Divorce skyrocketed. Suicide spiked.

  • Between 2056 and 2085 no children were born. In 2085 the CEG put together a team of geneticists which they called the Life Commission. The Life Commission began making test-tube babies so that the population wouldnt die out completely. Sperm and egg were taken from properly licensed parents and the resultant children were grown in synthetic fluid. Pregnancy became a thing of history while Life Farms became the future.

  • If a family lost its parenting license during the year-long waiting period between sperm/egg harvest and the resultant child, the child was turned over to the CHW. The CHW would then either find acceptable, licensed parents or would sell the child to a company.

  • By 2125 it was common practice for a company to purchase/design a child to be raised by the company/foundation. Instead of being a ward of the state the child became a company investment. A side effect of this very sterile/clinical atmosphere was a modest portion of the new generations being afflicted with attachment disorder. There was little to no nurturing for a child owned/sponsored by a corporation.

  • By 2145 the CEG began implanting identification codes in the babies. (not sure if its an implant or some genetic thing or what) Each specific created child had a specific code which would allow the CEG to find that specific child no matter where they were on earth.

All of this created a new brand of criminal. There was an underground element which believed in touch in physical human contact. There was a darker underground element which wanted only the sexual aspect. Those who became part of the underground could and did engage in sexual activity, bearing children the old fashioned way. The children created through this method had no identifiers. A side effect of this was that the non-regcit (REGistered CITizen) couldnt attain jobs, purchase food, clothing, homes, etc.

By the time this story takes place, earth society is largely unemotional. There isnt much physical contact at all, and never without proper gloves. Regcits are bred in clinical/sterile environments. Companies/corporations/foundations order specifically designed/genetically created children in order to breed their own leaders/athletes/geniuses etc. Many Regcits simply dont feel.

And, somewhere in all of that space travel became a common thing. Other planets were populated. Alien species were discovered. Pacts and such were agreed upon. Earth became known as the Terran World to those who were born and raised off-planet. The CEG became the authority on earth, like the President of a company, with the presidents and rulers of various countries becoming vice-presidents.

Other planets have different rules. Birth is a natural process off planet I think. CEG controlled planets have CEG rules, though not as strongly enforced as on Earth proper.

Ransom and Mac Chatfield are outlaws because they were born, rather than designed, to parents who went underground.

Story part???

Many years ago two people fell in love, married and decided to raise children. Maxwell and Karen Chatfield applied for, and were denied, a parenting license. For the decade following that first rejection, they reapplied time and time again. When the CHW decided they could not apply again, Karen fell into depression and Maxwell began some intensive, but secret, research. He knew there had to be a way to have children which didnt involve the government.

Using the utmost diligence, Maxwell slowly uncovered secrets, buried for centuries, from earth history. He was thorough and went over his findings multiple times before finally drawing his wife into his plan. Though it had taken a great amount of discussion, eventually Karen was convinced to dare the illegal. By the time the Chatfields celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary they had conceived their first child; and, they had become outlaws.

For thirteen years the Chatfield family ran from the authorities. Two months here, a week there, sometimes only a few hours of rest and they were on the run again. When their son, named for a man of speed from earth history, was 14 years old, Karen discovered that once again she was pregnant. Though she desperately wanted the baby, she knew she and Maxwell couldnt continue running forever.

Two months passed while Maxwell searched for an answer. Then, with a bribe which left them completely empty, the Chatfield family was able to stow away on a ship heading to planet?. Both Karen and Maxwell knew the dangers of going off-world with an unborn child, but they had to take the chance. Karen would not raise her second child the way shed raised her first. She would have a home if it cost them everything they had.

So There ya have it Thats what Ive got done.

Id like Charles to play the role of Mac and Russell to play the role of Ransom. However, I also want your input. How plausible do you think this story would be? How would we actually get to a plot? Im good at beginnings, but not so good at middles.

Head-shed with me, please. Id like input.
